Late Night Live at Anthology!

Once a month, Anthology in San Diego hosts a hip blend of music at their Late Night Live show. This month, local hip-hop group Those Dang Robinsons will be joined by The Upstarts for a night of hip-hop rock that should be unforgettable. Those Dang Robinsons play an original hip-hop/rock sound, noting influences from a variety of different genres and artists, including Stevie Wonder, James Brown, No Doubt, and Michael Jackson. Their sound has been compared to Jurassic 5 and The Roots. The Upstarts are a collection of San Diego hip hop artists who back their vocals with Jazz, R&B, and Funk inspired beats. For tickets to the late show, call the box office at (619) 595-0300.

The Champ is Here

Congrats to President-Elect Barack Obama for his big victory last week! Obama has made history, by becoming the first African American U.S. President, and also because turned nine states that President Bush won in 2004 to Democratic blue. Senator Obama represents change, progress, and hope, three things this country is in dire need of after 8 years of torture. After a long night on November 4th, 2008, America was finally able to breathe a little easier. For those of you who didn't catch his acceptance speech, let the eloquent speaking of our new President fill you with hope that we will overcome this terrible state we are in today.

"To those who would tear this world down, we will defeat you. To those who seek peace and security, we support you. And to all those who have wondered if America’s beacon still burns as bright, tonight we proved once more that the true strength of our nation comes not from our the might of our arms or the scale of our wealth, but from the enduring power of our ideals: democracy, liberty, opportunity and unyielding hope."- President-Elect Barack Obama

Destination: Thailand

For those of you that actually read my silly little blog, I apologize for not writing in over a month.  For the past three weeks, I spent some time in Thailand with my friends Lauren, Bennett, and Ryan.  If anyone is interested in going to Thailand, we have some great books and references to use to maximize your fun time everywhere, whether it's temple hopping in Bangkok or the Full Moon Party in Ko Phangan.  Some notable things to do in Thailand: eat LOTS of pad thai and banana pancakes, visit the giant reclining Buddha at Wat Pho, the Drop In Bar in Ko Phangan for some incredible pyrotechnics, Mona Lisa's pizza in Ko Phangan for a break from thai food, Railay Bay's relaxing ambiance, and Pi Leh Wall's fantastic scuba/snorkel trips off of Phi Phi Leh.

Don't Forget to Vote!

Planet Earth meets Xtreme Snowboarding

For those of you that are snowboard buffs like me, you will pleased to hear that yours truly was lucky enough to attend the premiere for the much anticipated Travis Rice film "That's It, That's All" at Anthology.  I was in charge of meeting and greeting all guests attending the event, and even got to spend some time talking to Travis and his family about his great accomplishment.

Not only is this film a spectacular display of the athleticism and boundary breaking travis and his friends are  famous for, but the movie was shot in a variety of locations using none other than planet Earth's own Wescam 35 and Cineflex HD cameras, making for the most insane visual effects I have ever seen in a snowboard film.  The technological advancements in cinematography have made this film a truly memorable, one of a kind film.

My favorite scene, shot in Valdez, AK in the massive Chugach mountain range, features heli drops on breath taking peaks, big air jumps, beautiful carving sequences, and not to mention the awesome background music!  In fact, the entire soundtrack is fabulous, featuring Justice and Digitalism, to only name a few.

The crowd was young, hip, and full of energy, and this epic film set the stage for an even bigger and better party!  On stage, DJ Shark Attack was on the turn tables in front of a team of artists painting a colorful mural.  In the venue were friends, family, and fans of Travis and filmmaker Curt Morgan dancing up a storm.  And since Quiksilver teamed up with RedBull for this ultra-exclusive ASR event, the RedBull Vodka's were flowing heavily.  Even with the craziness on the red carpet and the overcrowded house, the night was unforgettable thanks to Curt, Travis, and all the other mega stars that were featured in the film.  Keep your eyes peeled for the DVD release of the next big film in snowboarding, cuz it will seriously make history... and That's All, folks :)

Nice Digs

Yesterday I attended Currant's one year anniversary party at the Sofia Hotel's beautiful restaurant.  Other than eating delicious pulled pork sandwiches and sipping on lychee champagne cocktails, we also toured the meeting facilities, the yoga & fitness centers, as well as 2 beautiful rooms overlooking the cosmopolitan downtown San Diego landscape.  With harbor views, an incredible restaurant, and such fabulous amenities, the Sofia Hotel is a true gem in it's vintage building and prime location.  Just steps from the mall, 5th Ave., the port of San Diego, there is plenty to do at this posh hotel.
